Amazing food, wine and service. 10/10. An experience we will never forget. Thank you Dietary restrictions: Catered for my celiac but most was non gluten anyways.

4.6 | delicious food and drink, with some rather innovative experiences such as a absinthe waterfall, the salt cured venison, and the dry ice herb bowl. Service was incredibly friendly and fun. They were also very accommodating as we asked to switch our reservation date last minute to a Friday and they made it work! Definitely a visit if looking for fine dining in Auckland.

I finally managed to visit the last fine dining restaurant on my list. working on the basis of saving the best to last. The place smelt slightly damp - maybe due to the construction going on in the area. I checked out the set menu online in advance and was all prepared for the $175 set menu. However, the only menu we were presented was $235 set, ok $60 more but went with the flow. First few items delivered to table were great, however you are expected to eat these with your fingers, managed to get chop sticks so it didn't feel like we were eating street food. Wine list is great, but I really wanted a hazy ipa and only 1 to choose from, would have been great to have better selection, but granted it is a fine dining restaurant and customers prefer wine. I did spot a bottle of Penfold Grange for $1600, which I thought was good as you can pay a lot more for Grange at other place - well done a great wine list and fair price. Each of the plates were quite small [great taste], this would be the first time I have gone home from a fine dining restaurant and had to have more food at 10pm. At the end of the meal, we were offered tea and coffee, my partner asked the waiter was that included with the set menu and were advised yes". When paying the bill, there was $11 added for the tea and coffee. No problem paying, but maybe the wait staff need some training. Service was fine, the small portions were great, not 100% sure it was value for money, I will definitely remember the visit, not sure how it is No1 on Auckland fine dining list. I am sure it is a 5-star experience but for me it was not. It is great to try new restaurants, there are a few in Auckland I have returned to a number of times as perhaps they are more aligned to my expectations. I don't think I will be back to Grove again.
